Sunam, Oct 3: Sunam residents received a major boost to their daily lives this Dussehra, as the Punjab government inaugurated a ₹15.22 crore clean water supply project to address decades-long water issues in the city.
Cabinet Minister Aman Arora, who presided over the launch, said the project reflects the Mann government’s commitment to providing basic amenities and permanent solutions to citizens.
“This initiative is an important part of our vision to make life easier for every resident,” Arora said.
“Under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership, the government is focused on delivering what it promises, and this project is a clear example of that.”
The project involves laying a 34-kilometer-long pipeline throughout Sunam, ensuring that 1,472 households now have access to safe drinking water directly through taps. A 2-lakh-liter capacity water tank has also been constructed to guarantee a consistent supply.
For families who previously had to fetch water from distant sources or purchase it at high costs, the facility is expected to be transformative. Contaminated water, which often caused illnesses, will now no longer pose a daily challenge, improving health outcomes for children and the elderly.
Residents welcomed the project, noting the symbolic significance of launching it on Dussehra, a festival representing the triumph of good over evil.
“This is a long-awaited gift for our city,” said one local resident. “Finally, clean water is coming directly to our homes. It gives us hope for better days ahead.”
Arora stressed that the Sunam water supply project represents the Mann government’s broader goal of providing essential services to all citizens and fulfilling its promises on the ground.
Officials said the initiative shows how infrastructure development can bring tangible improvements to everyday life.
“The project is expected to transform Sunam from a city once known for water scarcity to a model of progress and sustainable development, demonstrating the impact of effective governance on citizens’ daily lives.”
