SAS NAGAR, Oct 8 — As part of Punjab’s ₹5,000-crore statewide initiative to strengthen power infrastructure and reduce outages, MLA Kulwant Singh on Tuesday launched the ₹728-crore Power Outage Reduction Plan for District SAS Nagar (Mohali). The district-level launch was held at the 66 KV Grid Sub-Station, IT City, where an additional 31.5 MVA power transformer was also inaugurated.
Addressing the gathering, Kulwant Singh said the investment represents a “major leap in power infrastructure development” aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply, voltage stability, and improved service delivery for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers.
“The completion of these works will significantly upgrade Mohali’s electricity distribution network, guaranteeing reliable and high-quality power for all categories of consumers,” the MLA noted.
The ₹728-crore district plan includes multiple key components: feeder deloading projects worth ₹172.2 crore, installation of new distribution transformers costing ₹35.5 crore, augmentation of existing transformers at ₹32.6 crore, and the establishment of new 66 KV and 220 KV substations worth ₹354.2 crore. Additionally, augmentation and addition of power transformers worth ₹62.9 crore and 66 KV line strengthening works valued at ₹70.6 crore are also being carried out.
Under the project, several new 11 KV feeders—including Jubilee Clio, STPI, TDI-2, Civil Hospital, Parsvnath, University, Punjab Officers Society, CPM, Aerovista, COSMO, Ambala Road, Vasant Vihar, Bauli Sahib, GBM, Green Valley, Sector 105, 108, 109, Block E & G Aerocity, and Marbella—have already been commissioned. These have helped deload existing feeders and improved power quality across Mohali.
The plan also envisions 14 new grid substations, including those at Sector 62, Sector 82, Sector 101, Sector 110, Sector 119, Medicity, Aerocity-2, Eco City-1, Mubarikpur, Bhagwanpur, Sector 123, Focal Point Mubarikpur, Bansepur, and Sector 101 (220 KV). Once completed, these will further strengthen the transmission and distribution network, particularly in peripheral and high-growth zones.
Kulwant Singh joined the state-level programme in Jalandhar via live stream, presided over by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, marking the official launch of the Power Outage Reduction Plan across Punjab.
Superintending Engineer H.S. Oberoi informed that Mohali has been designated the headquarters of PSPCL’s newly created East Zone, with a Chief Engineer stationed to oversee operations from Nangal to Lalru Division, ensuring closer monitoring and timely completion of works.
Executive Engineers Shaminder Singh (IT City) and Taranjit Singh (Mohali), along with local AAP leaders, were present during the event.
Officials said the extensive modernization effort marks a turning point for the district’s energy network, promising fewer power cuts, stable voltage, and long-term reliability in one of Punjab’s fastest-growing urban centers.
