New Orleans, 1 January 2025 – A car drove into a large crowd on New Orleans’ Canal and Bourbon Street early New Year’s Day, killing 10 and injuring 30 others, city officials confirmed. NOLA Ready, the city’s emergency preparedness agency, urged residents and visitors to avoid the area as emergency teams responded to the mass casualty incident.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy,” said New Orleans Police Superintendent Robert Montrell. “We are fully committed to investigating the circumstances and ensuring justice is served.”
The incident unfolded just hours after New Year’s Eve celebrations had concluded and shortly before the highly anticipated Allstate Bowl at Caesars Superdome, a college football event expected to draw thousands.
Authorities are working to piece together the details of the crash and have cordoned off the area for a thorough investigation.
