Rohtak, 1 December: Eleven people, including seven schoolchildren, were injured on Monday morning when a private school bus collided with another bus at Lakhan Majra in Rohtak district, police said.

The crash took place around 8 a.m. Passers-by pulled the injured from the buses and rushed them to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS). “Their prompt action helped ensure quick medical attention,” Rohtak superintendent of police Surender Singh Bhoria said.

Two of the seven injured students—both 11 years old—and the school bus driver were admitted to PGIMS, where doctors said their condition was stable. Five other children received first aid and were discharged.

The driver of the second bus, which was ferrying a wedding party, was also hurt, along with a 27-year-old woman and an 11-year-old passenger, officials said.

Deputy commissioner Sachin Gupta visited PGIMS to meet the injured students and the school bus driver.

The crash comes after a series of serious accidents involving schoolchildren in Haryana. In April this year, six students died in Mahendragarh when a private school bus overturned; the driver was allegedly drunk, and the bus’s fitness certificate had expired. A July accident near Pinjore left 46 people, including 42 schoolchildren, injured when an overloaded Haryana Roadways mini-bus overturned. In 2010, eight people—including six students—were killed in Bhiwani in a similar collision.
