Amritsar, Dec 23: Punjab Police on Tuesday said nearly 12 kg of suspected heroin was recovered from a village in Amritsar district during a joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force and the Border Security Force.
The seizure was made near Dalleke village under Lopoke police station limits after security agencies received inputs about suspected drone movement along the international border, police said.
“In a major breakthrough, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (Border Range), in coordination with BSF, recovered suspected heroin weighing approximately 12.050 kg near Dalleke village,” Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said in a post on X.
Police said a case has been registered and further action is underway in accordance with the law. No arrests were announced immediately.
Officials said the recovery was part of intensified surveillance in the border belt, where drone-assisted smuggling has emerged as a key challenge for security agencies.
Punjab Police said further details would be shared after the initial probe progresses.
