Chandigarh, July 31:Thirteen legislators from Haryana will travel to Boston, US, to participate in the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) from August 4 to 6, marking the largest-ever Indian legislative delegation at the global summit.

The delegation is part of a 130-member strong Indian team of MLAs and MLCs from 24 states and 21 political parties, facilitated by the National Legislators’ Conference Bharat (NLC Bharat) — a non-partisan platform focused on strengthening legislative capacity and promoting global democratic cooperation.

“This is the largest-ever Indian legislative presence at the NCSL,” said Nuh Congress MLA Aftab Ahmed, who is among the participants.

The Haryana contingent includes:

  • Congress MLAs: Ashok Kumar Arora (Thanesar), Akram Khan (Jagadhri), Aftab Ahmed (Nuh), Bharat Bhushan Batra (Rohtak), Induraj Singh Narwal (Baroda), Aditya Surjewala (Kaithal), Balram Dangi (Meham)

  • INLD MLA: Aditya Devilal (Dabwali)
  • Independent MLA: Devender Kadyan (Ganaur)

The MLAs are self-funding their visit.

During the three-day summit, legislators will engage with over 7,000 lawmakers from across the world on issues including:

  • Artificial Intelligence in governance
  • Digital democracy
  • Cybersecurity
  • Voter trust
  • Policy innovation

The programme also includes academic sessions on US legislative practices and interactions with Indian-origin leaders in politics, business, and academia.

The visit aims to expose Indian legislators to best practices in governance and deepen global democratic dialogue.
