CHANDIGARH, March 11 – Punjab’s 10-day-old anti-drug campaign has led to 1,360 arrests and 988 FIRs, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Aman Arora said Monday, claiming significant progress in the crackdown.
Addressing a press conference, Arora said police had seized 1,035 kg of heroin, opium, and synthetic drugs, along with 6.81 lakh drug pills and ₹36 lakh in cash. “These figures reflect our government’s determination to eliminate the drug menace,” he said.
Authorities have also demolished 24 buildings allegedly acquired through drug money, with properties worth crores seized.
Moreover, Nineteen traffickers sustained injuries after police opened fire in self-defense during raids.
Arora warned traffickers to either quit smuggling or leave Punjab, asserting that law enforcement was working relentlessly. He accused previous governments of shielding drug networks and failing to act.
A Cabinet Committee comprising Arora, Harpal Singh Cheema, Laljit Singh Bhullar, and Tarunpreet Singh Sondh has been tasked with overseeing the campaign.
Besides, Health Minister Balbir Singh is supervising de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts.
“This time, the Punjab government and police are working systematically to root out drugs from the state,” Arora said.
