Ferozepur, July 25: In a major breakthrough against cross-border drug trafficking, Ferozepur Police seized 15 kilograms of heroin and arrested a key smuggler linked to an international drug-hawala network.

The accused, identified as Ramesh Kumar Mechi, was apprehended by Ghall Khurd police during a targeted operation based on secret intelligence inputs. Officials said the seized heroin is worth several crores in the international market.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav hailed the operation as a significant blow to drug syndicates operating along the border. “The arrest is a result of our vigilant field units and robust intelligence system,” Yadav posted on social media platform X.

The Punjab Police have registered a case against Mechi under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigators are now pursuing leads to uncover the full scope of the network and identify additional operatives.

Officials said the arrest is likely to yield crucial information about cross-border smuggling routes and financial links tied to the drug-hawala syndicate.
