Chandigarh, April 1: The Punjab government has deployed a massive network of 19,000 ASHA workers and 900 facilitators to accelerate registrations for the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY). Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh announced on Wednesday that the grassroots initiative has successfully added nearly 10 lakh residents to the state’s health insurance program in the last 20 days alone.
Under the new outreach model, each ASHA worker is responsible for approximately 250 households, providing door-to-door awareness and assisting families with the enrollment process at Seva Kendras and Common Service Centres. Dr. Balbir Singh affirmed that the primary goal of the Bhagwant Mann administration is to ensure that no family in the state suffers due to the high cost of medical treatment. “Our ASHA workers are taking this promise to people’s homes, ensuring that every family is aware and able to enroll,” the Minister declared.
The scheme’s expansion is reflected in the daily registration figures, with nearly 50,000 residents enrolling every day. Currently, over 35 lakh Sehat Cards have been issued across the state, with Ludhiana, Patiala, and Jalandhar leading in total enrollments. To maintain this momentum, the government has implemented a structured incentive system for workers to ensure consistent outreach and accountability.
Beyond registration milestones, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna has already facilitated over 2 lakh treatments valued at Rs 300 crore. This includes 40,000 specialized surgical procedures in fields such as oncology, cardiology, and orthopedics. Officials stated that a budget of Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated for the 2026-27 fiscal year to further broaden the scheme’s impact and ensure comprehensive coverage for all rural and urban households.
