TARN TARAN, Aug 4— Security forces recovered over 1.3kg of heroin and apprehended two alleged drug smugglers near Kalsian village in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Sunday.

According to a post by BSF Punjab Frontier on X, the action was initiated after alert troops noticed a drone hovering in the area, suspected to be used for cross-border drug drops. 610 grams of heroin were seized during this operation and two suspects were caught.

In a parallel development in Ferozepur, the BSF seized a DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone near Barreke, suspected to have been used in narco-smuggling. In yet another coordinated effort with the Punjab Police, 755 grams of heroin were recovered from a plastic container near Noorwala village, also in Tarn Taran.

“These recoveries reflect BSF’s vigilance, precise intelligence and seamless coordination with Punjab Police in thwarting cross-border narco-smuggling attempts,” the BSF said.

The region, particularly along the India-Pakistan border, has seen a surge in drone-based smuggling operations, with heroin, firearms and other contraband regularly air-dropped by Pakistan-based handlers to their aides in Punjab. Security agencies have intensified surveillance and anti-drone operations in recent months.
