Chandigarh, Sept 27 — The Punjab Government’s ambitious health sector reforms are gathering pace, with the ongoing process of issuing Chief Minister’s Health Cards in Tarn Taran and Barnala districts.
Under the scheme, people from all sections of society will be eligible for health insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh, aimed at providing financial relief in times of medical emergencies. Officials described it as a “ray of hope” for common citizens struggling with rising treatment costs.
According to official data, 28,187 people have so far registered for the scheme in the two districts, reflecting strong public response to the initiative. Authorities said registration drives are being held at the grassroots level to ensure maximum outreach.
“The scheme is a crucial need in today’s time. By making quality healthcare accessible and affordable, it ensures that no family is pushed into financial distress due to medical expenses,” a health department official said.
The government has described the Chief Minister’s Health Cards as part of its broader “revolutionary steps” to strengthen the state’s healthcare system and expand welfare coverage.
