GANGTOK, June 2— At least three persons lost their lives and six security personnel are missing after a massive landslide struck a military camp at Chhaten in North Sikkim on Sunday evening, defence officials confirmed on Monday.

The landslide, triggered by relentless heavy rains in the region, occurred around 7 PM. “Three bodies have been recovered from the site so far, and four individuals were rescued with minor injuries,” a defence spokesperson said in an official statement.

Rescue operations are ongoing amid harsh weather and treacherous terrain. “Our teams are working round the clock to locate the six missing personnel,” the official added.

Sikkim has been witnessing torrential rainfall over the past few days, raising the risk of more landslides in the mountainous state. Authorities have urged caution and preparedness in vulnerable areas as the weather remains unpredictable.
