Ferozepur, Aug 2 — Three suspected drug smugglers were arrested and 13 kilograms of heroin seized in separate operations in Ferozepur district, the police said on Saturday. Authorities also recovered ammunition and weapon components during the raids.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the operations were conducted following intelligence inputs. In the first raid, police teams raided Madhre village, located near the Indo-Pak border, and arrested two men — Gurpreet Singh alias Gori and Gurpreet Singh alias Kali, both residents of Gatti Rajo Ke village. The officers recovered 8.3kg of heroin from their possession.

In a separate action, Jograj Singh alias Samar, a resident of Ansal village, was apprehended during a routine check near Mohkam Khewala village, close to Ghall Khurd. He was riding a two-wheeler when police intercepted him. Upon searching, they recovered 4.7kg of heroin, along with disassembled parts of a pistol and eight live cartridges, the SSP added.

“Initial investigations suggest the heroin was smuggled from Pakistan,” Sidhu said. “We are working to trace the backward and forward linkages — that means determining who sent the consignment, how it entered the country, and where it was supposed to go.”

The arrested suspects are currently being interrogated, and further arrests may follow as authorities map out the cross-border supply chain.
