PEHOWA, 25 August — Four pilgrims from Punjab were killed and three others injured on Monday morning when a Haryana Roadways bus from Hisar collided head-on with their pickup near Kyoudek village on Pehowa road.

The accident occurred around 8 a.m., near the Reliance petrol pump, police said. The impact was so severe that four of the seven occupants of the pickup died at the scene, while the remaining three sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

“All four were on their way to the Pehowa gurdwara to attend the religious congregation,” Inspector Rajesh Kumar of Pehowa police noted. “The driver of the bus and other passengers are cooperating with the investigation.”

Authorities said the road was cleared after the vehicles were removed, and normal traffic was restored later in the morning. The bodies of the deceased were sent for post-mortem examinations.

Local witnesses described the scene as chaotic. “The collision happened so suddenly that there was no time to react,” said Sunita Sharma, who was nearby. “It was a tragic start to the day for these families.”

Police are investigating the exact cause of the crash. “We are examining whether speed or a technical fault played a role in the accident,” Inspector Kumar added.

This tragic incident has once again raised concerns about road safety on the Pehowa route, particularly for pilgrims traveling from Punjab and other neighboring states.
