KANGRA, Aug, 15 — Four pilgrims from Punjab’s Moga district were killed and 25 others injured when their Mahindra pick-up veered off the Chamunda–Dharamsala road near Ikku Mod in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district on Friday morning, police said.
The victims were part of a group of 29 people returning home after visiting the Mata Chamunda Devi temple. Police said one woman died at the scene, while three others — two men and a woman — succumbed to injuries at Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital in Tanda.
The deceased were identified as Jagsir Singh, 38, son of Varyam Singh; Paramjeet Kaur, 35, wife of Gurmel Singh; Kiran, 35, wife of Sukhjinder Singh; and Sukhjinder Singh, 35, son of Parkash Singh. All were residents of Baaghi Ke village in the Nihal Singh Wala sub-division of Moga.
The injured, including driver Nirbhay Singh, 34, and conductor Angrej Singh, 38, were admitted to Tanda Medical College and were reported to be out of danger.
Senior police officials visited the hospital to record statements from survivors. Preliminary investigations suggest the accident occurred while the group was returning to Moga after paying obeisance at the temple.
