Jalalabad, Nov 25: Authorities seized 5.414 kilograms of heroin along with a Chinese pistol, ammunition, and four magazines in a cross-border smuggling operation near the international border in Jalalabad, police said Tuesday. The contraband was reportedly dropped by a drone from the Pakistani side.
The recovery followed the interrogation of two men, Karnail Singh (50) of Chak Bajida and Gurpreet Singh Lovpreet (27), arrested by personnel of the 65 Battalion Border Security Force under the Abohar Sector Headquarters. “During a night patrol on November 23-24, the two were spotted acting suspiciously in the Tahliwala area. They were found to be in contact with a drug smuggler in Pakistan,” said an officer of the Inspector rank serving as company commander.
A case was registered at Jalalabad Sadar Police Station under the NDPS Act, with Inspector Shimla Rani assigned to investigate. Fazilka Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh said a raid at Baljinder Singh’s house in Chak Tahliwala led to the recovery of 10 packets of heroin wrapped in yellow tape.
“The operation also recovered a Chinese pistol, four magazines, and 12 rounds of .30 bore ammunition. Baljinder Singh has now been named in the FIR, and efforts are underway to apprehend him,” Gurmeet Singh added.
Officials said the seizure highlights continued cross-border drug smuggling attempts and the coordination between BSF and local police to intercept illicit consignments.
