KARNAL, OCTOBER 27 — Nearly 50 young men from Haryana have been deported from the United States for entering the country illegally, police officials said on Monday. Of them, 16 belong to Karnal district, 14 to Kaithal, five to Kurukshetra and three to Jind.
The deported individuals were brought back under police supervision and handed over to their families after brief inquiries, officials noted. Many of them had spent months in detention centers in the US before being repatriated.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Ganga Ram Punia confirmed that 16 deportees from Karnal district were handed over to local police in Gurugram before being reunited with their families. “These individuals are all residents of different villages in Karnal district and have now been handed over to their families,” Punia said.

Jind SP Kuldeep Singh said three men from his district—Ajay of Bhairon Khera, Laabjot Singh of Nimnabad and Naveen of Pillukhera—were among those deported.
Sources said some of the deported youths had been detained in US immigration jails for months after being caught crossing the Mexico-US border. One youth reportedly told police that he was arrested immediately after crossing into the United States and remained in custody until deportation.
A Kaithal police spokesperson said Naresh Kumar of Taragarh, one of the deported men, had previously been booked under the Excise Act in 2022.
Officials said most of those deported are between 25 and 40 years old. Their families, many of whom had sold land or taken loans to fund their journeys, are now in shock. “They had gone with dreams of a better life. Now they have returned empty-handed and broken,” said a relative of one deported youth from Kaithal.
Between January and July this year, dozens of youths from Haryana have already been deported by US authorities, police noted.
