Chandigarh, 4 Dec. 2024: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is set to unveil a 35-foot-tall statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh at Chandigarh International Airport today. The statue, part of the Punjab Government’s Nishan-e-Inqlab Plaza project, was constructed at a cost of approximately ₹6 crore.

Extensive preparations by the district administration and police are in place for the event, which aims to honor the legacy of the iconic freedom fighter. However, the Punjab BJP has staged protests ahead of the inauguration, raising objections related to the statue’s unveiling.

The project was finalized following a meeting held by CM Mann with Public Works Department officials on September 12, 2024. During the meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the statue and emphasized its symbolic importance in reminding visitors of the sacrifices of martyrs.

Today’s inauguration ceremony, organized by a Bangalore-based company, is expected to mark a significant moment of tribute to Bhagat Singh’s enduring legacy.
