Ludhiana, November 8 — Police issued challans to around 600 motorists on Friday for violating traffic norms such as jumping red lights, crossing stop-lines, and driving on the wrong side, officials said.
The enforcement drive, aimed at improving traffic discipline and road safety, saw multiple checkpoints set up at major intersections across the city. Police said such violations often put the lives of both offenders and other commuters at risk.
A day earlier, 500 vehicle owners were fined for unauthorised and wrong parking in busy marketplaces and traffic-heavy zones. The drive was launched to ease congestion and discourage illegal parking in public areas.
In another safety measure, the police, under ACP (Traffic) Jatin Bansal, began a fog safety awareness campaign in collaboration with local media. Reflector tapes were affixed to heavy vehicles, auto-rickshaws, and tractors to make them more visible in foggy or low-light conditions.
Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma urged residents to cooperate. “Road safety is a shared responsibility. Simple preventive steps like using reflector tapes can save lives,” he said.
Authorities appealed to people to follow signals, avoid rash driving, and adopt safety measures during foggy weather to prevent accidents.
