767 Farmers Die by Suicide, Modi Ji Turns a Blind Eye: Rahul Gandhi

New Delhi, July 3 — Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi-led government, accusing it of turning a blind eye to the rising number of farmer suicides and ignoring their demands for loan waivers, while allegedly waiving massive loans for the wealthy.

Citing official data from Maharashtra, Gandhi said 767 farmers have died by suicide in the last three months alone. “Is this just a statistic? No. These are 767 destroyed homes. 767 families that will never be able to recover. And the government? It is silent. It is watching indifferently,” he said in a post on social media platform X.

Calling out what he described as a stark double standard, Gandhi alleged, “Farmers are sinking deeper into debt every day. Seeds are expensive, fertilizers are expensive, diesel is expensive… but there is no guarantee of MSP. When they demand a loan waiver, they are ignored.”

In contrast, he claimed, the Modi government is quick to ease the burden on industrialists. “But those who have crores? The Modi government easily waives off their loans. Just look at today’s news — Anil Ambani’s ₹48,000 crore SBI ‘fraud’,” he wrote.

Taking a sharp jab at the Prime Minister, Gandhi said, “Modi ji had said that he will double the income of farmers — today the situation is such that the life of the food provider is being halved.”

Accusing the Prime Minister of being consumed by image management, Gandhi added, “This system is killing farmers — silently, but continuously — and Modi ji is watching the spectacle of his own PR.”

The Congress leader’s remarks come amid mounting discontent among the farming community over rising input costs, uncertain returns, and what they perceive as government apathy.
