Manikaran, March 15 — A tourist from Punjab allegedly attacked a youth with a sword in Manikaran Valley, Kullu, on Saturday after being asked to remove a ‘Khalistan ‘flag from his motorcycle.

A video of the injured youth, bleeding from a head wound, has gone viral, triggering protests. Locals blocked roads, demanding strict action against the accused.

Tensions over such incidents have been rising. On March 5, 2023, over 100 individuals from Punjab allegedly rioted in Manikaran, vandalizing 20 vehicles and creating panic. Later, two suspects were arrested. Earlier that day, around 100 bikers from Punjab clashed with staff at Manali’s Green Tax Barrier over tax payment.

Residents have voiced frustration, stating that while pilgrims are welcome, hooliganism is not.

“Some visitors arrive in large motorcycle groups, display Khalistan flags, and get into fights when confronted,” a local said, adding that many carry swords, knives, and sticks, escalating tensions.
