Zirakpur, April 12: A man sustained gunshot injuries during a violent confrontation between occupants of two cars near the Hallomajra barrier around 11 pm on Friday, triggering a police investigation into the late-night firing incident.
The unidentified victim was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, for treatment.
Preliminary reports indicate that the clash occurred between the occupants of a Hyundai Santro and a Maruti Gypsy as both vehicles approached Chandigarh from Zirakpur. During the altercation, suspects inside the Gypsy allegedly opened fire on the Santro, injuring one of its occupants.
“The assailants fled the scene on foot, abandoning their vehicle,” said a police official, confirming that the Gypsy has been recovered.
Police teams are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and have launched a search to identify and arrest those involved.
