Defending Against Evil Part of Dharma: RSS’s Bhagwat

Mumbai, April 26: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat, in a veiled reference to the Pahalgam terror attack, said on Saturday that while non-violence remains a fundamental value of Hinduism, addressing threats from “hooligans” is equally part of religious duty.

“Non-violence is our nature, our value. Some people will not change; no matter what you do, they will keep troubling the world, so what to do about it?” Bhagwat said at a book launch event, according to ANI.

He added, “Non-violence is our religion. Teaching a lesson to hooligans is also our religion. We never insult or harm our neighbours. But still, if someone turns to evil, what is the other option? The duty of the king is to protect the people; the king must perform his duty.”

Earlier, responding to the attack, Bhagwat stated, “Our soldiers or our people have never killed anyone by asking about their religion. The fanatics who killed people by asking about their religion, Hindus, would never do this. That is why the country should be strong.”

During the launch of “The Hindu Manifesto,” Bhagwat also spoke about the essence of Sanatan Dharma and called for a deeper understanding of Hindu principles.

Addressing social issues, he said the caste system is contrary to Hindu teachings. “Nowhere does Hindu scripture preach untouchability. Nobody is ‘oonch’ or ‘neech’ (higher or lower). It never says that one work is big and the other is small… If you see oonch-neech, it is adharma,” he said.

Bhagwat further noted, “If you want to recognise the truth, understand that not everyone has the ability to see the entire truth alone. Truth is a little more than what everyone else sees combined.” He said Hinduism must coexist with other religions, reflecting its inclusive nature.
