Bathinda, June 20 — Days after the brutal murder of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, also known online as Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, two of the accused visited a religious shrine in Talwandi Sabo, sources confirmed Thursday.
The suspects — Jaspreet Singh and Nimaratjeet Singh — both residents of Punjab, allegedly paid obeisance at the shrine on June 11, just one day after Kanchan’s death. Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amneet Kondal confirmed the development, adding that the two men also traveled to Kharar and Mohali before their arrest on June 13.
“During their police remand, they claimed they didn’t know where the prime accused, Amritpal Singh Mehron, had gone,” said SSP Kondal. “According to them, Amritpal instructed them to flee immediately after the murder, promising help later. Whether they were manipulated or truly unaware of his whereabouts remains under investigation.”
Kanchan’s decomposed body was discovered on the night of June 11 in the back seat of a car parked outside Adesh University on the Bathinda-Chandigarh highway.
Police have since issued lookout circulars for Amritpal, who is believed to have escaped to the UAE within hours of the crime, and for Ranjit Singh, another alleged accomplice from Sohal village in Tarn Taran district. One suspect in the case remains unidentified.
Officials have described the murder as a case of “moral policing,” though further details are yet to emerge from the ongoing probe.
