MOHALI, July 2 — A Mohali court on Wednesday extended the vigilance remand of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia by four more days in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
Majithia, who was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on June 25, was produced before the court after the completion of his initial seven-day remand. Following submissions by the bureau seeking additional time for interrogation, the court granted the extension.
Security was tight outside both the Vigilance Bureau office and the district court complex, with heavy police deployment to manage anticipated protests and crowd movement.
The case pertains to allegations of laundering over ₹540 crore, with investigators claiming Majithia acquired assets beyond his known sources of income. The arrest and remand proceedings have intensified political tensions in Punjab, with SAD alleging vendetta by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government.
