JD(U) releases first list of 57 candidates for Bihar polls

PATNA, Oct 15 — The Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday released its first list of 57 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, fielding several senior ministers and prominent figures from the state’s political landscape.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s party has renominated ministers Vijay Choudhary, Sharwan Kumar, Madan Sahni, Ratnesh Sada, and Maheshwar Hazari, all of whom will contest from their respective strongholds.

JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha has been fielded from Mahnar, and he also filed his nomination papers on Tuesday. Among the notable inclusions are Shyam Rajak, who returned to the JD(U) after quitting the RJD last year, and Anant Kumar Singh, the don-turned-politician who submitted his nomination from Mokama on Tuesday.

The party’s statement detailed the constituencies of key candidates: Madan Sahni from Badaurpur, Ratnesh Sada from Sonbarsa, Maheshwar Hazari from Kalyanpur, Vijay Choudhary from Sarairanjan, and Sharwan Kumar from Nalanda.

The elections for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be conducted in two phases, on November 6 and 11, while vote counting is scheduled for November 14, according to the Election Commission’s schedule.
