Mansa, Oct 18: Two young sisters were killed and their father and brother critically injured after a Punjab Roadways bus ran over them in Jhuneer town of Mansa district on Saturday morning, police said.
The victims were identified as Meena Kaur, 15, and Seema Kaur, 8, both residents of Jhuneer. Their father, Binder Ram, and younger brother were rushed to a nearby hospital with severe injuries.
Police said the accident occurred when the family was walking along the roadside and the bus, bearing registration number PB31P9697, allegedly veered off course, hitting them. The bodies of the two sisters were taken to Sardulgarh hospital for post-mortem examination.
The bus has been impounded, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The incident sparked grief and anger among local residents, who gathered at the spot demanding strict action against the driver and stronger enforcement of traffic safety rules in the area.
