Chandigarh, October 29:The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of former Punjab Director General of Police (Human Rights) Mohammad Mustafa’s son, Aqil Akhtar, has found indications of “tension” between the father and son, officials said on Tuesday.
ACP Vikram Nehra, who heads the SIT, told reporters that initial findings suggest strained relations within the family. “There is no doubt about the tension between the son and father. Aqil had ideological differences with his family. He even mentioned this in the viral video,” Nehra said.
The SIT has questioned nine police personnel deployed at Mustafa’s residence and plans to record the statements of domestic staff on Thursday. “Our search of the house is complete. We have also recovered the deceased’s phone and laptop. Our first priority is to determine the cause of death. We have not yet called the family for questioning,” the SIT head noted.
Meanwhile, the Haryana government has formally sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case registered against Mustafa, his wife and former Congress minister Razia Sultana, their daughter, and daughter-in-law in connection with Aqil’s death.
