Mohali, Nov 12: Mohali police arrested a 32-year-old man on Tuesday for allegedly murdering his wife, who was discovered dead in their rented accommodation in Amb Sahib Colony, Jagatpura.

The accused, identified as Ravi, and the victim, 28-year-old Radhika, both originally from Bihar, had been married for barely two and a half months. They had recently moved into the residence. Ravi was employed as a driver for a local acquaintance.

Police said the crime likely took place on Monday evening but came to light only the next day when Ravi’s mother returned home and found Radhika lying motionless on the bed, covered in blood. A local doctor declared her dead at the scene.

Phase 11 SHO Inspector Periwinkle Singh Grewal said initial investigations suggest the attack occurred after an argument while Ravi was allegedly under the influence of alcohol. “The injuries on the victim’s head, face, and neck indicate the use of a blunt object,” Grewal noted.

Residents of the colony said Ravi was often seen consuming alcohol. “Around 6 pm on Monday, he was outside with blood on his clothes and holding what looked like an iron rod,” said one neighbor. “We alerted the colony head, who tried to contact the police, but no one responded from inside the house. The flat remained locked until the next day.”

At the time, Ravi’s elder brother, Sonu, who neighbors described as mentally challenged, was reportedly inside the home.

Ravi is currently in police custody, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the motive and circumstances of the killing.
