Chandigarh, Dec. 18: NIILM University, Kaithal, and the National Gatka Association of India on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to promote Gatka as a structured competitive sport and integrate it into the mainstream sporting framework.

The agreement was signed by NIILM University Chairman Sandeep Chahal and NGAI Vice President Sukhchain Singh Kalsani, who represented association president Advocate Harjeet Singh Grewal.

Under the partnership, the university will provide sports infrastructure and institutional support for national-level Gatka activities, while the NGAI will offer technical expertise, certified coaches and officials, and assist in organizing training programs and competitions.

“This collaboration will create new opportunities for students and athletes and help move Gatka beyond cultural demonstrations into organized competition,” Chahal said. He added that the university would align its programs with the rules prescribed by the World Gatka Federation.

The signing ceremony was attended by University Director (Sports) Davinder Dhull and Narender Pal Singh, joint secretary of the Haryanvi Gatka Association.

Grewal said the MoU focuses on embedding Gatka training, competitions and academic engagement within the university system. “This partnership is aimed at building a strong competitive structure and nurturing future champions,” he said.
