AMU teacher shot dead inside campus

ALIGARH, India, Dec 25 — A teacher at Aligarh Muslim University was shot dead on campus late Tuesday night, triggering a police investigation and a manhunt for the attackers, officials said.

Rao Danish Ali, a faculty member at the university’s ABK School, was shot in the head near the campus library around 9 p.m., according to university authorities. He was rushed to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, where doctors declared him dead.

“Around 9 p.m., we received information about a shooting near the library,” AMU Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali told reporters. “The injured person was taken for medical treatment. We later learned he was Rao Danish Ali, a teacher at the ABK School. He was shot in the head and died at the medical college.”

Police said two unidentified men opened fire on the teacher before fleeing the scene.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon said an investigation was underway and teams had been formed to trace the assailants. “Two unknown persons shot at the victim. We are examining all angles and searching for the accused,” he said.

University officials said the exact number of shots fired was still unclear, with varying accounts from witnesses. Police reached the spot soon after the incident and cordoned off the area for forensic examination.

No arrests had been made by late Wednesday, and the motive behind the killing remained unknown.
