CHANDIGARH, Jan 10 – Punjab’s property registration reforms have processed 370,967 documents in the last six months, signaling a shift toward digital-first land services.
The “Easy Registry” initiative, launched in July 2025, ended the year with its strongest performance yet. December recorded 76,377 registrations, the highest monthly total since the system’s inception. Officials attribute the volume to a new 48-hour online pre-scrutiny process that vetts sale deeds before citizens ever step into an office.
“The response shows that people trust a system that is transparent and time-bound,” Revenue Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian said on Friday. “By reviewing unsigned copies of sale deeds online within 48 hours, we have closed avenues for harassment.”
The system has introduced a “First In, First Out” principle to prevent queue-jumping. Additionally, the previous monopoly of specific offices has been removed, allowing residents to register property at any Sub-Registrar office within their home district.
“Citizens now have the freedom to choose their service point,” Mundian added. “This has ensured fair and equal access for both urban and rural populations.”
Automated WhatsApp updates and a direct complaint mechanism for reporting bribery have been integrated into the workflow to maintain accountability.
