Chhattisgarh, Jan 23: Nine Naxalites, including seven high-ranking women commanders, surrendered to authorities in the Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh today. The individuals carried a combined bounty of Rs 47 lakh and were active members of the Dhamtari-Gariaband-Nuapara division.
Among those who laid down their arms were Jyoti, also known as Jaini, who served as the Sitandi Area Committee Secretary, and Usha, known as Balma, a Divisional Member. Both individuals carried individual rewards of Rs 8 lakh. IG Amresh Mishra noted that the group decided to abandon the path of violence to join the mainstream.
The surrender comes as part of a broader security push in the region. Amresh Mishra mentioned that the group’s departure from the division marks a significant development for local security operations.
The move aligns with the broader objective of the Central Government to resolve the Naxal issue across the country. Official targets have been set to ensure the nation is free from Naxalism by March 31, 2026.
