Chandigarh, Feb 3: Aam Aadmi Party Punjab President and Cabinet Minister Aman Arora clarified on Tuesday that the recent bail granted to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia is a procedural relief rather than an acquittal.

Reacting to the development, Arora stated that the serious corruption allegations against the former minister remain unchanged and will be decided strictly on the merits of the evidence in court.

The minister noted that the Supreme Court’s decision was based on technical grounds, including the duration of Majithia’s custody, and does not diminish the gravity of the disproportionate assets case. He directly said that the Vigilance Bureau has compiled a massive chargesheet consisting of tens of thousands of pages that document assets far exceeding the accused leader’s known income.

“Majithia has not been given a clean chit. This is a procedural release and not an exoneration from the serious charges of looting Punjab’s resources,” Arora said during a press briefing in Chandigarh. He mentioned that the AAP government remains committed to taking every corruption investigation to its logical conclusion, regardless of the influence held by the accused.

Arora also criticized the celebratory atmosphere among Akali workers, calling it an attempt to mislead the public. He noted that the court has imposed strict conditions on the bail, including restrictions on international travel and witness interaction, which reflects the weight of the ongoing trial. The minister added that unlike previous administrations, the current government relies on the rule of law and solid documentary evidence rather than political noise.
