Kapurthala, Feb 4: The Punjab prison administration has shifted Shamsher Singh to the Kapurthala jail to avoid potential gang violence and ensure his safety. Singh, the father of wanted terrorist Goldy Brar, was released from medical care in Bathinda on Wednesday morning after being treated for a cyst.
Singh and his wife were apprehended in Amritsar on January 26 following an investigation into an extortion racket in Muktsar. Although both were sent to judicial custody on January 30, Singh was diverted to medical facilities in Faridkot and Bathinda when his health deteriorated.
Security officials directly said the decision to move him to Kapurthala instead of Muktsar was a tactical necessity. They mentioned that the presence of the Bambiha gang associates in the Muktsar jail posed a direct threat to his life.
“Shamsher was being taken to the Kapurthala jail following his discharge from the hospital,” SSP Abhimanyu Rana noted during the transfer process.
Singh, who previously served as a member of the state’s police force, was retired compulsorily four years ago. While his wife remains in the Muktsar district jail, Singh will now be held under high security in Kapurthala as the legal proceedings in the extortion case continue.
