Ludhaina, Feb 5: Two masked motorcycle-borne youths robbed and critically injured a 67-year-old man during the early hours of Thursday in the Daresi area. The victim, a long-time newspaper hawker, is currently battling serious internal injuries at DMC Hospital following a surgical procedure.
The victim was reportedly pursued by the suspects while riding his scooter near Shivpuri Chowk. Despite attempting to seek cover behind a passing trolley, the hawker was cornered a short distance away. The assailants used a sharp-edged weapon to inflict wounds before stealing his phone and cash.
Family members mentioned that the victim was performing his routine duties when the targeted attack took place. They noted that the level of violence used for a mobile phone and a small amount of cash was particularly alarming.
“We arranged a vehicle and took him to DMC Hospital for treatment, where a surgery was performed by doctors,” the victim’s son, Akhil, said.
The local community has expressed concern over the safety of early morning workers following the incident. Police have been informed of the details surrounding the motorcycle and the masked suspects as they begin their investigation into the robbery and assault.
“My father was riding his scooter to Ghanta Ghar to pick up the newspaper as usual,” Akhil mentioned, noting that the suspects blocked the path before the physical confrontation began.
