Decision finalized after public criticism of party high command

Chandigarh, Feb 6: Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been expelled from the Congress party ranks on Friday. Punjab affairs in-charge Bhupesh Baghel confirmed the move, which follows a period of heightened tension between Dr Sidhu and the party hierarchy.

The expulsion follows Dr Sidhu’s public assertions that the party leadership is surrounded by self-serving individuals. She recently claimed that decision-making processes within the party were delayed and influenced by an inner circle that prevents a true understanding of state-level challenges.

“He takes more than six months to react to an emergency call, by which time loss is inevitable,” Dr Sidhu remarked in a social media critique. She further alleged that those close to the leadership were focused on personal luxuries rather than the party’s welfare.

The internal friction traces back to December 2025, when Dr Sidhu was first suspended over controversial remarks regarding the state’s political appointments. More recently, she had been vocal in her criticism of state unit president Amrinder Raja Warring, accusing him of failing to protect the party’s interests in Punjab.

While Dr Sidhu has hinted at her appreciation for her past role within the BJP, there has been no official confirmation regarding her next political move. Her husband, Navjot Singh Sidhu, has not yet issued a statement regarding the expulsion or his own future alignment with the party.
