Ludhiana, Feb 8: Three men face charges in Ludhiana after a routine traffic stop turned into a violent encounter involving a fake Vigilance Bureau officer. The confrontation took place at the Mundian Kalan intersection when traffic police stopped a car for a registration plate violation.

The driver, Raj Kumar Khatri, allegedly tried to intimidate the traffic team by claiming a high-ranking status in the state’s Vigilance Department. When ASI Dalip Kumar asked for his credentials, Khatri and his friends reportedly exited the car and began a verbal and physical assault on the officers present.

“Don’t you know me? I’m a senior officer in the Vigilance Department and you will have to face consequences,” Khatri told the officers during the initial stop. The police noted that the suspects showed no regard for the law and actively obstructed the team from performing their duties.

ASI Kumar reported that the encounter turned physical very quickly. “The accused manhandled me and broke the top two buttons of my uniform,” he mentioned, adding that his colleagues were also subjected to similar treatment. The suspects managed to drive away from the initial spot but were caught shortly after at another checkpoint.

Authorities stated that the individuals were apprehended after a brief pursuit and cordoning of the road. The police team confirmed that the vehicle lacked the mandatory high-security number plates, which was the original reason for the intervention.

“The accused not only obstructed official duty but also openly insulted the police uniform and attempted to escape while issuing threats,” the ASI said. The police have since processed the arrests and are investigating the matter further.
