Chandigarh, Feb 8: The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded a clarification from the Congress party regarding MP Charanjit Singh Channi’s decision to reveal drug-selling locations in a public video. State Media In-charge Baltej Pannu described the move as a shameful attempt to undermine the state’s anti-drug initiatives.
Pannu mentioned that during the tenures of previous governments, including those led by Captain Amarinder Singh and Channi himself, no concrete steps were taken to dismantle drug networks. He noted that the current government’s campaign is now being targeted by opposition leaders through “cheap politics.”
“The duty of a responsible public representative is to inform the police and get drugs stopped, not to publicize drug hotspots through videos,” Pannu said. He questioned if the former Chief Minister was acting as a brand ambassador for those involved in the illegal trade.
The AAP leader noted that the public is observing how certain political figures are creating hurdles in the path of the state’s welfare. He mentioned that identifying drug locations on social media only serves to inform potential buyers and protect traffickers from discreet police operations.
Pannu said that the government’s mission to clean up the state will not be weakened by such actions. “The government will continue its fight until drugs are rooted out of the state,” he noted.
