Chandigarh, Feb 13: Sarabjit Kaur, a woman from Punjab’s Kapurthala district, has moved back to her husband’s house in Pakistan following her release from a Lahore-based shelter home. Formerly part of a Sikh jatha, she has expressed a firm desire to stay in Pakistan, citing a long-term relationship with her spouse.

Kaur had been held at Dar-ul-Aman after being arrested for violating visa protocols. She arrived in Pakistan on November 4, 2025, for religious ceremonies but failed to cross back into India with her fellow pilgrims. Pakistani media reports confirmed her release this week after legal proceedings regarding her overstay were paused.

Regarding her decision to stay, she mentioned that she and her husband have been in love for eight years. She noted that she has no wish to return to her previous life in India and intends to live out her years in her new home.

Authorities mentioned that Kaur’s arrest last month was a result of her visa being valid only for a limited duration and specific religious sites. While she was initially facing potential deportation, her recent release indicates a shift in the handling of her case. A viral photo of her with her legal counsel suggests that she is now pursuing a more permanent legal status within the country.
