AMRITSAR, Feb 21 — Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lawmakers and leaders staged a vigorous protest against Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday, greeting his convoy with black flags and mourning bands. The demonstration occurred outside a Saini community function and a political rally at Dana Mandi, where AAP members voiced their opposition to the BJP’s policies toward Punjab.
Leading the protest, MLA Jeevan Jyot Kaur stated that the BJP-led central government has systematically blocked funds essential for Punjab’s health, education, and rural development. She affirmed that the people of the state are well aware of the “anti-farmer and anti-trade” stance adopted by the saffron party. “We want to ask, with what face is the BJP coming to Punjab?” she declared, adding that the public would not be misled by political rhetoric.
The protesters, including MLAs Inderbir Singh Nijjar and Dr. Ajay Gupta, maintained that the visit was an attempt to spread false propaganda. They asserted that the BJP’s discriminatory attitude has caused significant resentment among Punjabis.
Addressing the media, AAP leader Neel Garg responded to criticisms regarding the state’s internal security. He noted that central agency reports place Punjab second in the country for maintaining law and order, a ranking he stated is superior to that of Haryana. He further remarked that the Haryana government should focus on its own challenges, citing high crime statistics in the neighboring state, before lecturing Punjab.
