Chandigarh, Feb 25: A senior official serving in the Haryana Secretariat died Wednesday afternoon after falling from the seventh floor of the government building in Chandigarh. Ganesh Arora, who held the post of Special Senior Secretary to IAS officer Hitesh Meena, reportedly jumped from the terrace around 12:30 pm and died instantly at the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, Arora was present in his office earlier in the day before he abruptly departed without providing notice to his colleagues. Following the incident, police personnel arrived at the secretariat to secure the area and initiate an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fall.
The body has been moved to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 for a post-mortem examination. Sources within the administration noted that the official was nearing the end of his professional tenure, with his retirement scheduled for October.
“Arora jumped from the seventh-floor terrace of the secretariat around 12:30 pm and died on the spot,” officials stated during the preliminary briefing. The Chandigarh police are currently recording statements from staff members to determine the sequence of events leading up to the tragedy.
