Chennai, Feb 27: Sangeeta Sornalingam, the wife of Tamil actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay, has reportedly approached the Chengalpattu family court to seek a divorce after more than 25 years of marriage. The legal action, initiated under the Special Marriage Act of 1954, follows allegations concerning the actor’s personal conduct.

The petition specifically references sections of the Act pertaining to adultery and cruelty as the basis for the dissolution of the marriage. According to the filing, Sangeeta stated that she became aware of an extramarital relationship involving the actor and a colleague in 2021. The document maintained that despite previous assurances that the relationship would conclude, it persisted without change.

The couple, who wed in August 1999 in ceremonies honoring both Hindu and Christian traditions, share two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Shasha. While Sangeeta has historically maintained a private profile, making only occasional public appearances alongside her husband, the current proceedings are now being heard before the District Court.

This legal development coincides with a period of professional transition for the actor, as he prepares for the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections. His final cinematic project, “Jana Nayagan,” directed by H. Vinoth, remains in a certification stalemate with the Central Board of Film Certification. The film was originally slated for a January release but has faced delays that impact his planned entry into full-time public service.
