Fazilka, October 16, 2024: Dengue cases continue to rise in Punjab, with a notable increase in Fazilka district despite ongoing awareness efforts by the health department.

According to health department data, 26 positive dengue cases have been reported in the district, and investigations are currently underway.

Civil Surgeon Dr. Eric provided updates on the situation, stating that approximately 122 teams have been deployed to combat dengue.

So far, these teams have inspected around 7,500 houses, discovering dengue larvae in about 32 locations, which were promptly eliminated and invoiced, he said.

Dr. Eric stressed the need for caution among residents, noting that the 26 reported cases in Fazilka are still active.

He reassured the community that the health department is actively monitoring households and has implemented broad arrangements at the district government hospital to manage dengue cases effectively.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to help curb the spread of the disease, he added.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted primarily by the bites of infected Aedes mosquitoes. It causes symptoms ranging from mild (fever, headache, muscle pain) to severe (abdominal pain, bleeding, and organ failure).

The virus spreads when a mosquito bites an infected person, then transmits the virus to others. Prevention focuses on vector control by eliminating standing water and using insect repellent.

While there is no specific treatment for dengue, supportive care is essential.

A vaccine called Dengvaxia is available, mainly for those with a prior dengue infection. Dengue is common in tropical and subtropical regions, especially during rainy seasons.
