Chandigarh, March 6: A major initiative by the Punjab Government to empower female business owners has reached a key milestone, with 11,700 women entrepreneurs being honored at the constituency level this week. The “Mahila Udyami Samman Program” is part of a broader strategy to support those achieving financial independence through self-employment and small-scale industries.

Government representatives affirmed that the program’s reach has been extensive, covering every Assembly constituency in the state. Each local area identified 100 women for their achievements in fields ranging from home-based enterprises to various service industries. The high volume of participants, totaling over 28,000 applicants via the PSRLM portal, underscores a growing drive toward entrepreneurship among the state’s female population.

The upcoming phase will shift to the district level, where 100 outstanding contributors from each of the 23 districts will be celebrated. This will lead to the grand finale on March 18, where Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will personally honor the 100 most impactful entrepreneurs from across Punjab. These individuals will receive a cash incentive of ₹25,000 as a token of appreciation for their innovation and grit.

Authorities maintained that such programs are essential for inspiring the next generation of women to pursue leadership roles. They stated that by honoring those who have already established successful ventures, the state aims to create a ripple effect of economic change. The initiative is being lauded by local communities as a meaningful gesture that moves beyond ceremonial praise to provide tangible recognition and support.
