Nuh, March 10: A violent confrontation between a Meghalaya Police team and local residents in Haryana’s Nuh district left one youth injured on Monday evening. The clash occurred on the Shikrawa-Bhadas road as the visiting police team was escorting a high-profile ATM robbery suspect, identified as Rahul Khan, back to Meghalaya.
Authorities stated that the incident was triggered when a mob of villagers from Wajidpur and surrounding areas intercepted the police vehicles near a local eatery. The crowd allegedly pelted the officers with stones in a bid to forcibly free the accused from custody. Nuh police officials maintained that the Meghalaya team resorted to aerial firing in self-defense after the situation became uncontrollable.
During the exchange, a local resident identified as Tarif sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He was subsequently transported to Nalhar Medical College for treatment. Despite the chaos, the Meghalaya Police successfully secured the suspect and reached the Pinangwan police station to coordinate further legal formalities with local authorities.
The suspect, Rahul Khan, is the primary lead in a case involving the theft of lakhs of rupees from an ATM, registered at the Mawngap police station in East Khasi Hills. He had been apprehended on February 8 through a joint operation involving the CIA team of Punhana.
While a video of the confrontation has circulated widely on social media, prompting allegations of excessive force from some community members, police officials affirmed that the firing was a necessary legal measure to maintain custody of the high-stakes prisoner.
