Ropar, April 2: Police teams from the Counter Intelligence wing descended upon Rattangarh village in the Morinda area early Friday, conducting targeted raids at the residences of two individuals suspected of involvement in the recent Chandigarh blast. The operation follows Wednesday’s explosion outside the Punjab BJP headquarters, which has triggered a multi-jurisdictional investigation.

During the early morning sweep in Ropar district, officers detained one man, identified as Amanpreet Singh, according to accounts provided by his family at the scene. However, the primary suspect in the investigation, Gurtej Singh, remains at large after eluding authorities during the surprise raid.

Intelligence officials believe Gurtej Singh, who reportedly worked as a bike taxi driver in the capital, played a central role in the incident. While the Counter Intelligence teams led the operation, local district authorities indicated the mission was coordinated from the state level.

“The raids were conducted by teams of police from headquarters,” Ropar SSP Maninder Singh affirmed. He noted that specific details regarding the progress of the operation were being managed by the central units.

The family of the detained suspect maintained that he was being unfairly linked to the fugitive. Amanpreet Singh’s wife declared that her husband had no personal or professional connection with Gurtej Singh.

The mother of the missing suspect also expressed frustration with the ongoing investigation, noting that the family had been estranged from him for several years. She mentioned that her only knowledge of his recent life came from neighbors who suggested he was working in Chandigarh.

“The police should arrest him if he has done anything wrong, but other family members should not be harassed,” she stated.
