New Delhi, April 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on the 47th Foundation Day of the BJP that the party is committed to implementing a 33 percent reservation for women in the 2029 General Elections. Addressing party members virtually on Monday, the Prime Minister noted that the government intends to move amendments during a special session on April 16 to accelerate the rollout of the quota for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.

The proposed legislative changes aim to delink the reservation from the 2026 Census, instead utilizing 2011 Census data for delimitation. This adjustment would allow the 2023 Women’s Reservation Law to take effect sooner than originally planned. “We are now determined with all the might at our end that the 2029 elections take place with women’s quota in place,” the Prime Minister declared, recalling a resolution first passed by the party in 1994.

Beyond electoral reforms, the Prime Minister identified the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the “One Nation One Election” initiative as primary objectives for the party’s future. He maintained that a positive debate is currently underway regarding these goals. While acknowledging past successes such as the construction of the Ram Mandir and the abrogation of Article 370, he affirmed that the BJP remains focused on addressing demographic imbalances and ending dynastic politics.

Reflecting on the party’s evolution since 1980, the Prime Minister stated that the BJP has introduced a “service-based” model of politics to the national stage. He urged workers to prioritize national interests over personal gain to foster a self-reliant India. Regarding international relations, he noted that India’s global standing has shifted, asserting that the nation now maintains “equal proximity to all” global powers.
