Shimla, April 8: Shimla district police apprehended a 40-year-old woman from Chandigarh on Wednesday after she was found in possession of approximately 40 grams of heroin. The suspect, identified as Rekha, a resident of Mauli Jagran, was intercepted by a special cell team acting on a specific tip-off regarding drug trafficking activities near the city’s old bus stand.
The arrest occurred during a late-night patrol on Tuesday when officers received information that a woman was traveling toward the Downdale area to distribute the illicit substance. Police teams moved to intercept the suspect in the Kodi Basti region, where a search of her belongings led to the discovery of the narcotics. Investigators stated that the heroin was concealed within a plastic packet hidden inside a secret compartment of her purse.
“Taking swift action, the police team reached the Kodi Basti area in Downdale, where they stopped the woman for checking,” SSP Shimla Gaurav Singh affirmed. “Police arrested the accused and seized the contraband from her, which she had hidden inside a secret pocket in her purse.”
Authorities have registered a formal case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The SSP asserted that the police are now focusing on uncovering the broader network involved in this trade. Officials maintained that the investigation is ongoing to determine the source of the heroin and identify potential accomplices in the region.
