Chandigarh, April 10: To simplify administrative procedures, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has announced the launch of Suvidha Camps aimed at providing immediate water and sewerage connections. The initiative, which introduces a single-window approval system, is specifically designed to assist small shopkeepers and vendors who have previously struggled with the complexities of the application process.

The directive for these camps was issued on Friday by the Superintending Engineer of the Public Health department, following extensive discussions during the Municipal Corporation’s General House meeting on April 8. Officials stated that the primary objective is to facilitate the public by bringing essential services directly to community centers. Under this new mandate, Sub-Divisional Engineers and junior engineers are required to be present at designated sites every Saturday to process applications on the spot.

Council members originally raised the necessity for such an initiative after reporting that small business owners were frequently subjected to delays. They affirmed that the current system allowed middlemen to exploit applicants by demanding significant sums of money to expedite basic utility services. To combat this, the administration maintained that the new camps will offer clear guidance on documentation and formalities, ensuring that coordination between various departments happens seamlessly under one roof.

The civic body has instructed all relevant staff to ensure strict compliance with the new schedule. Authorities declared that these camps will be a regular feature in their respective jurisdictions, with area councillors assisting in the coordination to ensure that every eligible vendor can access the service without unnecessary hurdles.
